Revised Standards for RTOs to come into effect next July
In May, Federal, State, and Territory Skills Ministers agreed to advance the revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations, which will be publicly released in August this year.
These standards will come into full regulatory effect on 1st July 2025.

AVETMISS Quarter 2 reporting
1st – 14th August 2024 Q2
The submission window for Q2 2024 direct fee-for-service data to the National VET Provider Collection will open on 1-14 August 2024. If you submit your fee-for-service data through a State Training Authority, please ensure you are aware of their respective submission deadlines.

2024–25 budget allocations for National Agreements
In the Commonwealth budget announced on 14 May 2024, $2.432billion was designated for the National Skills Agreement (NSA) for the fiscal year 2024–25, alongside an extra $108.2 million through other National Partnership payments.

Regulatory Risk Priorities 2024-25
ASQA have published the Regulatory Risk Priorities for 2024-25. Identifying the Regulatory Risk Priorities through environmental scans and sector research, issues raised by students and other stakeholders, and internal data collection and analysis.
This report has highlighted increasing risk factors related to non-genuine providers and bad-faith operators, especially concerning international students.

Extended transition period: CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability
Recently, ASQA approved an extended transition period for the CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability qualification. This extension applies to all RTOs with this qualification on their scope and is applicable only to currently enrolled students.
The transition period for training, assessment, and certification issuance for this qualification is extended from 31 July 2024 to 31 January 2025.
The CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability will remain on the scope of registration for RTOs until the end of the extended transition period.

Changes are now here for Australian Apprenticeships
Starting July 1, 2024, the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations will collaborate with Australian Apprenticeship Service Delivery Providers to offer targeted assistance aimed at enhancing support for apprentices and their employers throughout the entire apprenticeship journey, from initiation to successful completion.

The USI transcript update tool allows for the addition and/or updating of 2023 AVETMISS activity. However, it cannot accommodate training activities scheduled for 2024, as this data must be reported using your usual reporting method.

The National Student Outcomes Survey closes on 11th August 2024
Nearly one million vocational education and training (VET) students, including all who completed a qualification in 2023, have been invited to participate in the 2024 National Student Outcomes Survey. This survey offers them an opportunity to share their feedback on their reasons for training, satisfaction with the training, and their employment and further study outcomes.

The July Recruitment Insights Report reveals that recruitment difficulty rates have decreased in 2024 across skill levels, selected industries, and major occupation groups.
The gap in recruitment difficulty between higher-skilled and lower-skilled occupations continues to widen. This year, the difficulty in recruiting for lower-skilled occupations has decreased more significantly compared to higher-skilled occupations.

NCVER’s new statistical report highlights growth in government-funded VET students
The latest NCVER report, “Government-funded Students and Courses 2023,” provides a summary of data on students, programs, subjects, and training providers within Australia’s government-funded VET system.
The report reveals that the number of government-funded vocational education and training (VET) students rose to 1,256,365 in 2023, marking a 5.0% increase from 2022.
TAFE institutes experienced the largest increase in student numbers by provider type, with an increase of 50,240 students (or 8.3%) to 659,185.

Closing the institutional gap: Perspectives on the circular economy from selected African TVET institutions by UNESCO-UNEVOC (2024)
UNESCO-UNEVOC’s study emphasises the vital role of TVET systems in this transition, identifying the barriers and enablers to incorporating circular economy principles into TVET curricula in Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. Key factors include policy frameworks, industry partnerships, curriculum updates, and coordinated efforts between TVET authorities and industry stakeholders. This study highlights the need for capacity building and investment to unlock TVET’s potential in supporting a circular economy.

The University of South Africa (UNISA) is hosting its inaugural hybrid international conference on technical and vocational education and training (ICTVET2024). This conference is being organised in close partnership with the South African Public Colleges Organisation (SAPCO), which represents 50 public TVET colleges in South Africa, and is supported by UNESCO-UNEVOC and other partners.
