Course Audit

Course Audit is a remotely delivered, scaled audit service focused on one qualification. We sample two units of competency and review the learning and assessment for those units, plus the training and assessment strategy. We check the evidence against the Outcome Standards for RTOs (1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 18) and identify gaps, risks, and recommended improvements. The service includes an opening meeting, a structured evidence review, and a closing meeting to confirm findings and next steps. The service is delivered by Joe Newbery exclusively. Once you have provided the evidence, we aim to return your audit report within two weeks.

Purpose

Course Audit checks whether your training and assessment for one qualification is compliant with the Outcome Standards for RTOs, with a focus on Standards 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.8. The purpose is to identify gaps and risks, confirm what is working, and provide practical recommendations you can implement straight away to strengthen compliance and improve delivery. This is a targeted audit with a fast turnaround, priced as a practical option for any RTO. This service is perfect if you want to use one qualification as a sample and then apply the findings and outcome to other courses you are offering.

Outline of service

The following outlines ho the Course Audit service is delivered:

1. Initial discussion

After we have received your purchase and payment, Joe will get in contact and like a time for initial discussion. The purpose of this discussion is to clarify the scope of the audit and also discuss the type of evidence that will be requested and any other factors that are relevant to the delivery of the course.

2. Request for Evidence

Following the initial discussion, Joe will send you an evidence request detailing the type of evidence you are recommended to provide. We request this in one submission and require all of the final evidence before the audit is commenced. The following is an example of the type of evidence that would be requested:

1. Provide evidence of your training and assessment strategy and supporting documents for the sample qualification, including a details timetable or course program that should the planned learning and assessment activities and how these are sequenced and structured over the course duration.

2. Provide evidence of the learning material for the nominated sample units of competency including all learning material that support the implementation of the training and assessment strategy.

3. Provide evidence of your assessment tools for the nominated sample units of competency , including student assessment instructions, assessor instructions, all materials used to make a judgment of competency for the students.

4. Provide evidence of the facilities, equipment and resources in support of the delivery of the nominated sample units of competency including a list of physical resources/equipment (if applicable) and photos/videos of relevant facilities and equipment (if applicable).

3. Reporting

Joe will provide you with a formal audit report detailing all of the findings with recommendations. The report will be written in Joe’s usual explanatory style and provide lots of explanation and detailed rationale. The audit report will be supplied usually within 2 weeks after the final evidence is received.

4. Closing meeting

The closing meeting is usually scheduled for 60 minutes to allow time to talk through the findings and any major recommendations. This is an opportunity for your team to ask questions to gain a better insight into the findings and how to move forward. It is good to involve your team in this meeting even as spectators so that they can fully understand the current state of compliance and the opportunities for improvement.

Conclusion

Course Audit gives you a clear, practical view of how one qualification stacks up, without the time and cost of a full scope audit. You get an independent set of eyes on your TAS, learning and assessment, plus a written report you can act on straight away. For many RTOs, this is the fastest way to reduce risk, lift quality, and build a repeatable approach you can apply across other qualifications.
