Description
RTO Course Audit is a remotely delivered, targeted audit service focused on one qualification. The audit samples two units of competency within the qualification and can include up to two trainers and assessors. It provides an independent review of the training, assessment, resources and trainer capability associated with the selected course.
The service is delivered exclusively by Joe Newbery. Once all requested evidence has been received, the audit report is usually provided within two weeks.
Purpose and Scope
The purpose of the RTO Course Audit is to test whether the sampled training and assessment arrangements for one qualification are compliant with the applicable Outcome Standards for RTOs 2025 and the requirements of the training product.
The audit focuses on:
- Outcome Standard 1.1 – Training
- Outcome Standards 1.3 and 1.4 – Assessment
- Outcome Standard 1.8 – Facilities, resources and equipment
- Outcome Standards 3.2 and 3.3 – Trainer and assessor competencies, skills and currency
The audit includes a sample of:
- 1 x qualification
- 2 x units of competency
- Up to 2 x trainers and assessors
The service is designed to provide a focused review of one course without the time and cost associated with a broader organisational compliance audit. It can also provide useful insight into issues or improvement opportunities that may be relevant across other qualifications delivered by the RTO.
Outline of Audit Service
The RTO Course Audit is deliberately streamlined. Unlike a full RTO compliance audit, it does not involve a staged organisational review or management meeting. The audit is conducted primarily through the collection and review of evidence relating to the nominated qualification, sample units and trainers.
Following purchase of the service, Joe will contact you to confirm the qualification, the two units of competency to be sampled and the trainers and assessors to be included in the review. An evidence request will then be provided setting out the information required for the audit.
The audit will generally include review of the training and assessment strategy and supporting delivery documents for the qualification. This may include timetables, course programs or other documents showing how training and assessment are structured, sequenced and scheduled over the course duration.
For the two sampled units of competency, the audit will review the learning resources used to support delivery and the complete assessment tools. This generally includes student assessment instructions, assessor instructions, assessment activities, observation instruments, marking or judgement guidance and other materials used to support assessment decisions.
Evidence of the facilities, equipment and resources required to support delivery of the sampled units will also be reviewed. Depending on the training product and delivery arrangements, this may include equipment and resource lists, photographs or video evidence of facilities and equipment, workplace arrangements and other relevant supporting evidence.
For up to two trainers and assessors, the audit will review evidence relating to trainer and assessor credentials, vocational competency, current industry skills and knowledge, and current skills and knowledge in training and assessment.
Once all requested evidence has been received, Joe conducts the audit and prepares a formal audit report setting out the findings and recommendations. The report explains the basis for significant findings, why any identified issue matters and what requires attention. The report is usually provided within two weeks of the final evidence being received.
A closing meeting is then held, usually for approximately 60 minutes, to work through the findings and any significant recommendations. This gives your team an opportunity to ask questions, better understand the findings and discuss practical priorities for corrective action or improvement.
The RTO Course Audit is suited to organisations wanting an independent and focused review of a particular qualification, or those wanting to use one qualification as a sample to identify lessons that may be applied more broadly across their scope of registration
