Asbestos Awareness Training and Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention Training were previously delivered to detainees at the AMC with services ceasing on 14 November 2025. It is imperative that ACTCS continues to deliver this training course to detainees. The course will equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely in environments where exposure to asbestos and silica may pose a hazard, and support participants in entering the job market by building on the skills they have acquired during their time in custody.

Description: ACTCS is committed to ensuring that detainees at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) have access to meaningful education and training programs that support their rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. One such initiative is the provision of Traffic Control Training, which is currently being delivered at the AMC through simple purchase orders. This training equips detainees with essential skills and certifications—such as the use of stop/slow batons and understanding traffic management protocols—that are directly applicable to employment opportunities in the construction and civil works sectors. By building on the skills acquired during their time in custody, the course enhances detainees’ employability and supports their transition into the workforce upon release. It is imperative that ACTCS continues to offer this training, as it provides detainees with the knowledge and competencies required to work safely in environments where traffic control is necessary, including roadworks, infrastructure projects, and public event management.
