A Trainers Guide to Demonstration and Performance Methods of Instruction
Overview
This webinar is a pre-recorded video that is accessed by purchasing a registration. The webinar can be viewed at your convenience in the next seven days following your purchase.
This webinar focuses on demonstration and performance methods of instruction as a structured approach to teaching practical skills in vocational education and training. It explains how trainers can use explanation, demonstration, imitation, practice, feedback, and staged support to help students develop competence in practical tasks.
The session examines the three main demonstration and performance methods of instruction: Explain, Demonstrate, Imitate (EDI), Explain, Demonstrate, Practice (EDP), and Demonstrate, Explain, Practice (DEP). It explains how each method works, what kinds of tasks each method suits, and how trainers can make deliberate choices about the most appropriate teaching sequence.
Rather than treating practical instruction as a matter of simply showing a task once and expecting students to perform it, this webinar explains how trainers can structure learning so students hear it, see it, discuss it, practice it, and progressively improve their performance.
The webinar also explores the role of scaffolded practice, fault correction, and trainer support in building student competence, and explains why effective training must come before assessment if students are to perform confidently and consistently.

Where
You can view the webinar from the comfort of your office on your personal computer or device.
When
This webinar is pre-recorded. The webinar is available for seven (7) days following your registration. You can view the webinar as many times as you like in that time. After the seven days, the webinar will not be available.
Why
This presentation will increase your understanding of how practical skills are best taught through structured instruction, demonstration, guided performance, and feedback.
It will help you better understand how to choose between different demonstration and performance methods, how to structure practice so students move toward independent performance, and how to correct faults before poor technique becomes habit.
The session also has direct relevance to the Outcome Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2025. Clause 1.1 requires training to be engaging and well-structured, with sufficient time for instruction, practice, feedback and assessment, and requires training techniques, activities and resources that engage students and support their understanding. This webinar helps trainers and training managers apply those expectations in a practical way.
The session is particularly useful for trainers and training managers who want to strengthen the quality of practical instruction and ensure that students are properly prepared for competent performance and assessment.
