Thank you to those who provided some feedback on the new VET News layout. We have made some minor adjustments and will continue to make improvements.
For those responsible for submitting the Annual Declaration of compliance, this can be submitted from the 17th April (next Monday) and will be initiated by ASQA via an email with a unique web link for each RTO. Keep an eye out for this email.
I am pleased to release our most recent article on our website which provides a Guide to the ASQA Audit Process. The new ASQA audit process really is a fundamental shift from the way VET regulatory audits have been conducted over the last two decades. It is a good process, but if you have a renewal of registration coming up in the next two years, this article is mandatory reading. We talk about the evidence which will be requested, the questions which will be asked and the sequence of events. Remember the five Ps (or the six Ps if you prefer that version). You must prepare systematically for your renewal of registration, and I am sure this article will be of great value:

New! – RTO and ESOS Obligations Checklists – Published
ASQA have published updated obligation checklists for 2023 including for both RTO and ESOS obligations. These checklists are great to pin up to remind you about important obligations. These include obligations such as:
- updating your contact details on asqanet
- reporting your annual vet activity (AVETMISS) data to NCVER
- submitting your annual declaration on compliance
- submitting your 2022 quality indicator data
- paying ASQA your annual registration charge (ARC)
- checking if your registration will expire this year.

Foundation Skills Study
Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) wants to hear your views on the design of a new national study on adult literacy, numeracy and digital skills by providing feedback on our Foundation Skills Study Discussion Paper.
A lack of basic literacy or numeracy skills, or both, often results in exclusion from education, training and secure work, as well as difficulty engaging in society more broadly. The most recent national data available on adult foundation skills is more than a decade old. Collated back in 2011-2012, a survey conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) found increasing the literacy level of a country by 1% leads to a 2.5% rise in labour productivity and a 1.5% increase in GDP per head.
Submissions will close at 5pm AEST Monday 24 April 2023.

Work restrictions for student visa holders
From 1 July, work restrictions for student visa holders will be re-introduced.
Student visa work restrictions were relaxed throughout the pandemic, and completely removed in January 2022 to allow primary and secondary student visa holders to work over their normal limit of 40 hours per fortnight to address workforce shortages. This will end on 30 June 2023.

The latest data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) show there were 402 245 apprentices and trainees in-training as at 30 September 2022, 14% higher when compared with the same time in 2021.
